A mild earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck Bangladesh in the early hours of the morning on Sunday. This is according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS) of India, the tremor was recorded at 4:02am Bangladeshi time.
In a post on social media platform X, NCS specified that the seismic activity occurred exactly at 4:02:32am. The epicentre was identified at latitude 24.85° N and longitude 92.07° E, placing it within Bangladesh at a location approximately 21 kilometres from Sylhet city.
The earthquake originated at a relatively shallow depth of 20 kilometres (12 miles).
Volcano Discovery, an organisation monitoring volcanic and seismic activity, also confirmed that a light earthquake hit the country on Sunday morning.
Despite the seismic event, there were no immediate reports of the tremors being felt in specific areas, and no damage was reported.
Authorities stated that because the earthquake was mild, it did not cause panic among the general public, and there have been no reports of casualties or property damage to date.
