The authorities have decided to extend the operation hours of Metro Rail to further ease the commute for residents of capital.
The Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) confirmed the decision through a notification. Starting Sunday, Metro Rail’s operating duration has been increased by 20 minutes from both ends.
Under the new schedule, the final train from Motijheel destined for Uttara will depart at 10:30pm, while the last train from Uttara North heading to Motijheel will leave at 9:50pm.
Prior to this change, the last services from Motijheel and Uttara were scheduled for 10:10pm and 9:30pm, respectively.
According to the Metro Rail authorities, this extension follows a month-long period of observation and testing. As per the new arrangements, only one additional trip will be operated in each direction during the extra 20 minutes – one train towards Motijheel and another towards Uttara. This results in a 10-minute interval between the trains during this specific period.
In a separate development, senior citizens and persons with disabilities are set to receive a 25 per cent discount on Metro Rail and train fares starting from Monday.
