Inter Miami suffered a stunning 4-3 home loss to Orlando City on Saturday after blowing a 3-0 lead in Lionel Messi’s 100th match for the club.
Miami looked set for a big night at Nu Stadium after racing into full control early in the game.
Ian Fray gave the hosts the lead in the fourth minute. Telasco Segovia added the second in the 25th minute to put Miami firmly ahead.
Messi then made it 3-0 in the 33rd minute with a superb left foot strike from outside the box. The Argentine star curled his shot past Orlando keeper Maxime Crepeau and sent the home fans into celebration.
But Orlando produced an incredible fightback. Martin Ojeda started the comeback in the 39th minute with a fine long range effort.
He struck again in the 68th minute with another powerful shot from the edge of the area. Ojeda then completed his hat trick in the 79th minute from the penalty spot to level the score at 3-3. The goal took his season tally to seven in 11 matches.
Miami failed to recover after losing control. Tyrese Spicer sealed Orlando’s dramatic win deep into stoppage time. He ran onto a long ball, broke through Miami’s defense, and calmly finished through goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair’s legs.
The collapse handed Inter Miami their second MLS defeat of the season and left them still searching for their first win at their new home ground.
