Police arrested five people over a robbery in Dhaka’s Airport Police Station area, recovering 90 rolls of foreign fabrics worth about Tk30 lakh.
Two covered vans were also seized during the operation.
According to police sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of 1 May on the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway, in front of a restaurant.
A covered van transporting fabrics from Chattogram port to the capital was intercepted when an unidentified vehicle struck it. As the driver stepped out to inspect the damage, criminals fled with the van.
Following the filing of a case, investigators identified suspects through CCTV footage. Four persons were arrested from Dakshinkhan area on Sunday, and based on their information, the stolen fabrics and two vans were seized.
A fifth suspect was later arrested following leads from the initial detainees.
Police said the process of sending the arrested individuals to court is underway, and operations are continuing to apprehend others involved.
