Popular actress Mehazabien Chowdhury and her brother Alishan Chowdhury have been discharged from a case filed over allegations of threats and intimidation.
The order was passed on Monday morning following a hearing at the Dhaka District Administration. Executive Magistrate Md Adnan Zulfikar delivered the ruling after hearing both sides.
Monday was fixed for submitting replies from Mehazabien and Alishan. After their written responses were filed, the court heard arguments and granted them discharge from the case.
Defence lawyer Tuhin Howlader confirmed the development to the media.
According to the case statement, the complainant alleged that Mehazabien Chowdhury had proposed involving him as a partner in a new family business, citing their long-standing acquaintance. He claimed to have paid Tk 27 lakh at different times through cash and bKash.
The complainant further alleged that the business never started despite repeated assurances. He claimed that requests for repayment were delayed with promises of “today or tomorrow.”
The allegations also stated that on February 11, when the complainant sought his money, Mehazabien and her brother asked him to meet at a restaurant near Hatirjheel Road on March 16. He alleged that upon arrival, Mehazabien, her brother and several unidentified individuals verbally abused him and issued death threats.
Seeking redress, the complainant later approached the Bhatara Police Station. Police advised him to file the matter in court.
He subsequently filed the case at the Dhaka Executive Magistrate’s Court under sections 107 and 117(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
After the hearing, the court ordered the discharge in the case.
