The 2026 FIFA World Cup™ now has its official match ball. On Thursday in Mexico City, Adidas revealed the TRIONDA, a design that celebrates the unity of the tournament’s three host nations Mexico, the United States, and Canada while incorporating the most advanced technology ever seen in international football.
Meaning and symbolism
The name “TRIONDA” combines “Tri” (three) and “Onda” (wave), reflecting the three coloured waves red, green, and blue representing the host nations. The ball also features unique national icons to celebrate each country:
- A star for the United States
- A maple leaf for Canada
- An eagle for Mexico
These symbols appear both in layered graphics and embossed across the matte surface of the ball. Golden accents pay homage to the FIFA World Cup trophy, emphasising that the TRIONDA was created for football’s grandest stage.
technological innovation
The TRIONDA introduces a new four-panel construction designed to improve flight stability and durability with every touch. Deep seams and strategically placed relief lines ensure consistent movement through the air, while the embossed icons provide better grip in wet conditions.
A key feature is the evolution of Adidas’ Connected Ball technology. A 500 Hz motion sensor embedded in one panel offers real-time data to the VAR system, enabling faster offside decisions and tracking every touch to assist in resolving controversial situations such as potential handballs or fouls.
A ball for fans
Sam Handy, General Manager of adidas Football, said:
“Every detail makes an impact. The embossed textures, layered graphics, and bold colours make the ball stand out instantly. This is the most visually engaging FIFA World Cup ball we’ve ever created, a piece of craftsmanship built for the biggest stage.”
With its combination of cultural symbolism, cutting-edge technology, and striking design, the TRIONDA is poised to become an iconic symbol of the 2026 FIFA World Cup™, marking a historic chapter in football’s evolution.
