Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has assured that the government will take all necessary steps to recover public funds illegally transferred abroad, promising that those responsible will face justice under the nation’s legal system.
The prime minister made the remarks on Wednesday during a supplementary question session in the National Parliament, responding to Comilla-9 MP Abu Kalam.
The session marked the sixth day of the first sitting of the 13th National Parliament, presided over by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed.
“Returning public money for the welfare of citizens is one of the government’s foremost responsibilities,” prime minister said. He added that any measure required to bring back the embezzled funds will be undertaken, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Responding to another question from Rajshahi MP Mujibur Rahman, the prime minister clarified that compiling lists of money launderers is the responsibility of the relevant government departments, not the Prime Minister’s Office.
Criticising previous administrations, he said, “In the past, officials often bypassed laws and ethical norms, misappropriating public funds. Our government respects the legal framework and will act strictly within the law.”
He emphasised that all legal procedures will be followed, ensuring fair trials for those involved in embezzlement or money laundering.
“The law will take its course, and offenders will be punished according to the country’s existing legal system, guaranteeing justice for the people,” he said.
