Six more children died from measles and measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed and suspected measles deaths this year to 481.
According to the latest bulletin from the Integrated Control Centre of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), between 8am on 19 May and 8am on 20 May, three people died from confirmed measles, and three others reportedly died from suspected measles-related causes.
In the past 24 hours, 1,270 suspected measles cases were identified, while 138 cases were confirmed as measles.
From 15 March to 20 May, a total of 57,856 suspected measles cases and 8,067 confirmed cases have been reported nationwide. During this period, 401 deaths occurred due to suspected measles, including 80 confirmed by laboratory tests.
To control the measles outbreak, the government’s National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Programme 2026 is being vigorously implemented.
According to EPI and surveillance data, the total target for divisional vaccination was 18,015,064 people, and so far 18,359,870 individuals have been vaccinated, achieving 102% coverage.
Meanwhile, in city corporation areas, 1,905,950 people were targeted for vaccination, of whom 1,990,168 have been vaccinated, reaching 104% coverage.
Among the city corporations, the highest coverage was recorded in Gazipur (111%) and the lowest in Rangpur (97%). Dhaka North and South city corporations achieved 107% and 102% coverage respectively.
