The measles outbreak in the country continues to take an alarming turn as the total number of patients has crossed the 45,000 mark, with 10 more deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
Among the latest fatalities, one was a confirmed measles death while the remaining nine were recorded as suspected cases.
According to the latest data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 95 new confirmed infections were identified during this 24-hour period, alongside 1,166 suspected cases.
A press release from the integrated control centre of the DGHS revealed that since 15 March 2026, the cumulative number of suspected measles patients in the country has reached 40,491. Of these, 5,313 cases have been confirmed through laboratory testing.
The total death toll since the start of the outbreak has risen to 50 confirmed fatalities and 244 suspected deaths.
An analysis of divisional statistics shows that Dhaka division remains the worst-affected region, recording the highest rates of both infection and mortality. In the last 24 hours, Dhaka division reported 523 suspected cases and four deaths.
Patient numbers are also rising significantly in the Chittagong, Rajshahi, and Barishal divisions. Currently, 27,816 individuals have been hospitalised with symptoms of the disease, of whom 24,090 have been discharged following recovery.
In response to the escalating situation, the government has intensified the ‘National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026‘. Since the drive commenced on 5 April, more than 1.46 crore (14,633,000) children have received vaccinations.
At the divisional level, Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, and Mymensingh have achieved 100 percent of their target coverage. Vaccination efforts are also proceeding rapidly across City Corporation areas, where the average coverage has reached 105 percent.
