The Vice-Chancellor of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) ABM Shahidul Islam has called for continued unity to prevent the resurgence of fascism while addressing a victory rally organised to mark July Mass Uprising Day-2026.
The rally began at 10:05am on Tuesday in front of the university’s administrative building and marched through different roads on the campus before concluding in front of the Third Academic Building, reads a press release.
Addressing participants after the rally, Shahidul said, “We must build a new Bangladesh by embracing the spirit and ideals of July. Just as we have come together for this victory rally today, we must remain united in the days ahead and continue our struggle against fascism.”
He added, “We must pledge that fascism will never again be allowed to return to the soil of Bangladesh. No matter how terrorism or fascism attempts to re-emerge, we must remember the sacrifices of the July martyrs and never allow that opportunity.”
The VC also urged students, teachers, officers and employees to work together with mutual cooperation and solidarity instead of becoming divided.
Speaking at the programme, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Md Anisur Rahman said, “To preserve the victory of the July Mass Uprising, we must maintain mutual respect and unity. Everyone must remain vigilant to ensure that fascism cannot rise again.”
He also called on students to remain vigilant like sentinels.
Among those present at the rally were Anisur, IQAC Director Mostafa Kamal Nasir, Director of the Student Welfare and Counselling Centre Md Fazlul Karim, Proctor Monir Morshed, Estate Director Associate Professor Abu Jafar Shibli, deans of different faculties, department chairpersons, residential hall provosts, teachers, students, officers, employees, leaders and activists of various student organisations, and journalists.
The university authorities said day-long programmes had been arranged to mark July Mass Uprising Day-2026.
As part of the celebrations, a hall fest and a cultural programme will be held at the university’s open stage at night.
The programme will feature the band Abhash along with performances by the university’s cultural organisations CDC, MBMC, Dhrubatara and Nrityadhara.
