Bangladesh ended their T20I series against Australia with another disappointing result as the visitors secured a seven wicket win in Chattogram on Sunday. The defeat completed a 3-0 series sweep for Australia.
Bangladesh struggled with the bat once again. The hosts managed only 109 for 8 after being sent in to bat at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Cricket Stadium.
Towhid Hridoy was the lone bright spot in the innings. The right hander remained unbeaten on 61 from 51 balls and helped Bangladesh reach a three figure total. Apart from Hridoy and Rishad Hossain, no Bangladesh batter could score in double figures.
Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals. Five batters returned to the pavilion with only 36 runs on the board.
Tanzid Hasan was run out for 5 in the second over. Saif Hassan followed soon after. He scored just 1 before giving a catch to Mitchell Marsh off Spencer Johnson. Nurul Hasan made 6 before Adam Zampa bowled him. Shamim Hossain failed to score and became Johnson’s second wicket.
Hridoy fought from one end despite the collapse. He reached his fifty and carried the innings until the final over. Rishad added 16 runs and gave him some support late in the innings.
Hridoy’s unbeaten knock included three fours and three sixes. Without his effort, Bangladesh would have finished with a much lower total.
Johnson led Australia’s bowling attack with figures of 2 for 6 from four overs. Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa also claimed two wickets each. Nikhil Chaudhary picked up one wicket.
Australia made a flying start in reply. The visitors collected 54 runs in the powerplay and put the match beyond Bangladesh’s reach early.
Marsh dominated the chase with an aggressive innings. Josh Inglis scored 17 before Nasum Ahmed dismissed him. Marsh then brought up his half century from only 23 balls.
The Australia captain finally fell for 60 from 28 deliveries. He struck seven fours and four sixes before Shoriful Islam dismissed him.
Rishad Hossain removed Cooper Connolly later in the innings, but Australia remained firmly in control.
Tim David finished the match in quick fashion. He needed only three balls to complete the chase. Two massive sixes from the hard hitting batter sealed the victory with 54 balls remaining.
Australia completed a clean sweep and finished the series in dominant fashion. Bangladesh, meanwhile, were left searching for answers after another difficult outing with the bat.
