The traditional Sangrai celebrations of the Marma community started in Khagrachhari on Fridayas part of Boisabi, one of the primary social festivals of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
Marma Unnayan Sangsad and Marma Youth Welfare Association organised the program. Deputy Commissioner Md Anowar Sadat inaugurated the program as the chief guest . Superintendent of Police Md Mortoza Ali Khan was present as a special guest.
Under the theme “The bond of harmony, the song of tradition, let Sangrai be the soul of union,” young men and women participated in various folk games, including Dah, Gila, and Alari.
Moreover, the area took on a festive atmosphere with pani khela (water festival) and cultural performances.
Colourful dances and cultural presentations by Marma girls during the opening session enthralled guests. The unique cultural beauty of the Marma community was showcased through traditional attire, melodies, and rhythms.
Meanwhile, official formalities of Boisabi will begin with the phul biju of the Chakma community on 12 April. On the same day, the Tripura community’s Boisu will commence, while the Marma community’s three-day Sangrai festival will start on 14 April.
