A man was shot and approximately Tk17 lakh was snatched by miscreants in front of Janata Bank in the capital’s Motijheel area on Sunday.
The incident took place at around 3:15 pm when the victim, identified as Lokman, was targeted by the attackers. Lokman sustained two gunshot wounds to his hand and leg during the robbery. He is currently undergoing treatment at Mugda Medical College Hospital.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting and recovered two empty bullet casings.
Harunur Rashid, Deputy Commissioner of the Motijheel Zone, told the TIMES of Bangladesh that the victim had just exited a money exchange when the mugging occurred. The miscreants snatched a total of 20,000 in foreign currency, which has an estimated value of Tk17 lakh.
“The victim is currently receiving medical care at the hospital,” deputy commissioner added. He further stated that law enforcement officials are currently reviewing multiple CCTV footages to identify and apprehend those involved in the crime.
