A man was shot and injured in a gun attack by unidentified miscreants in West Bania Khamar area of Khulna city on Sunday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Ali Nur Dablu, 47, son of Etim Ali and a resident of the 153 West Bania Khamar locality, was attacked around 5pm near an intersection in the area.
According to police and local sources, Dablu was sitting inside a scrap metal shop when eight armed miscreants arrived on four motorcycles and opened fire on him before fleeing the scene.
He sustained three bullet injuries to his left hand.
Locals immediately rescued him and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Witnesses said the miscreants, coming from the Gollamari area, carried out the attack and fled towards Moylapota after the shooting.
The incident sparked panic and created a tense situation in the area.
Sub-Inspector Nadim Mahmud of Sonadanga Police Station said police reached the spot shortly after receiving the information and assisted in shifting the injured man to hospital.
He said the motive behind the attack could not be confirmed immediately.
Officer-in-Charge of Sonadanga Police Station Md Rafiqul Islam said Dablu has multiple cases against him, including charges related to murder and illegal arms.
He added that initial investigations suggest that he may have been targeted in a clash involving rival groups. Police are working to identify and arrest those involved in the attack.
