An elderly man was allegedly beaten to death during a dispute over land ownership in Manda upazila of Naogaon district on Sunday.
The victim, Abdul Hamid, 65, was a resident of Chutipur Paschimpara village.
According to police, Hamid had been engaged in a longstanding dispute with his neighbour, Haider Ali Shah, over a piece of land.
Khorshed Alam, officer-in-charge of Manda Police Station, said Haider Ali and several associates went to the disputed land on Sunday morning to cultivate it.
Hamid later arrived at the site and objected to the activity.
An altercation ensued, during which Hamid was allegedly assaulted by Haider and his associates. He sustained severe injuries and died at the scene, police said.
Upon receiving information, police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Naogaon 250-bed General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Police have arrested three people in connection with the incident. The detainees were identified as Apel Mahmud, 25, Alefa Bibi, 50, and Abdul Matin, 40.
Further legal proceedings are underway, police added.
