Police have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly circulating obscene and nude photographs of a young woman from Dhamoirhat upazila on social media.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) for Naogaon Mohammad Tarikul Islam confirmed the arrest at 7pm on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Md Alif Hossain, is the son of Azharul Islam from Charbirsingha area of Tangail’s Ghatail upazila. He was apprehended on Monday during a police raid in Gopalpur area of Tangail.
According to police sources, the victim’s father had filed a complaint with Dhamoirhat Police Station after discovering that an unidentified individual was sharing his daughter’s private images online.
Following the registration of the case, a high-priority investigation was launched.
SP Tarikul said Alif’s identity and location were tracked through information technology and cyber analysis.
During the arrest, his mobile phone was seized, which provided crucial evidence.
The investigation further revealed the images and videos of at least three other women, as well as a nude video of Alif’s own wife, stored on the device.
During primary interrogation, Alif reportedly admitted to befriending women on Facebook and various other online platforms.
He would use various tactics to collect their private and nude photographs, which he then used to blackmail the victims for personal gain.
Police noted that the accused appeared to derive “distorted mental satisfaction” from these activities.
The arrested suspect has been sent to jail through the court. SP Tarikul reiterated that the Naogaon district police maintain a strict stance against cybercrimes, including pornography involving women and children, and will continue to take firm legal action against such offenders.
