Professor Md Maksudur Rahman Sarkar, the Chairman of the Department of Accounting at Dhaka University (DU), has resigned from his position as a part-time member of the National Pay Commission.
The professor announced his resignation during an emergency press briefing held at the Dhaka University Registrar Building on Thursday.
Rahman stated that a four-member sub-committee had been constituted under the written directives of the commission’s chairman to draft specific recommendations for all public universities in the country.
He noted that while the committee submitted 33 proposals to the commission, these were not reflected in the final report, prompting his resignation.
During the briefing, he urged the government and the commission to take the sub-committee’s proposals into account to improve the quality of higher education.
The government had originally issued a notification on 27 July to form the 22-member National Pay Commission. The commission was tasked with determining a new salary structure for officers and employees across government, semi-government, and autonomous organisations, as well as state-owned banks, financial institutions, government-aided universities, and state-owned industrial enterprises.
Professor Md Maksudur Rahman Sarkar was appointed as a part-time member of the commission under this mandate.
