Lucky Ali has opened up about death during a live performance, telling his audience that he carries his burial cloth whenever he travels and is prepared for the inevitable.
Speaking to NDTV, the 67-year-old singer said he had made peace with the fact that everyone must eventually leave the world. His remarks came as he responded to the affection he continues to receive from fans.
“I know, I love you all too. One day we all have to go. I am not preparing you for it, but I am prepared actually. Whenever I travel, I travel with my Ihram, which is my burial cloth; wherever I die, just let me go from there,” he said.
His comments left the audience emotional. One fan said they had followed his music for 30 years.
After Lucky shared a video from the concert on Instagram, fans expressed concern and affection. One recalled watching his songs in the late 1990s, while another praised the faith reflected in his decision to carry an Ihram and prayed for his long, healthy life.
Known for his distinctive voice and independent music, Lucky rose to prominence in the 1990s. He later sang for films including Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Yuva, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Anjaana Anjaani and Tamasha.
Lucky has previously spoken about leaving Bollywood. In an interview with Navbharat Times last year, he said he moved away from the industry in 2015 after finding it monotonous and began pursuing music on his own terms.
He also recalled working with Shyam Benegal on Trikal and Bharat Ek Khoj and learning from Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Om Puri.
Lucky has been married three times. His first marriage was to Meaghan Jane McCleary, with whom he has two children. He later married Inaya, with whom he has two children. In 2010, he married British model and former beauty queen Kate Elizabeth Hallam. They have a son and divorced in 2017.
Reflecting on his relationships, Lucky said none of his marriages worked, but he remains connected to his former partners and has always taken responsibility for his children.
