Local government elections will be held at the end of the current year, Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman announced on Tuesday.
Speaking with journalists, the adviser said according to preliminary preparations and planning, the government has set a target to conduct the polls late this year.
He emphasised that this initiative is being undertaken to further strengthen local government and ensure public representation at the grassroots level.
The adviser noted that discussions regarding the specific dates and the election schedule are currently ongoing.
He further clarified that holding the elections in phases would likely take between 10 months and one year to complete. Addressing administrative concerns, the adviser asserted that the government has no plans to undermine or disable the Upazila Parishad.
He added that the government would release detailed information regarding the election roadmap in due course.
