Bangladesh captain Litton Das said his side’s T20I series victory over Ireland proved the national team has finally built the depth and cohesion needed ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Speaking after the eight-wicket win in Chattogram, Litton described the last year of rotation and experimentation as deliberate preparation.
“We have tried hard for a year. Our group of 15 to 17 players is almost ready to play on this stage,” he said. “Everyone is mature. Everyone is capable.”
Litton said the biggest change in this Bangladesh side is the clarity of roles and competition for places. He made it clear that selection is no longer automatic for any individual.
“Whoever is in the top 15 cannot all play at the same time. You cannot play 17 people. We tried every day to play our best XI,” he said.
Bangladesh also showed a sharp improvement in fielding throughout the series. Tanzid Hasan Tamim took five catches to equal the world record, but Litton said it was a collective step forward.
“If you look at these three games, we caught brilliantly. At least in terms of fielding, we can say that there has been a lot of development,” he said.
The captain believes Bangladesh are now closer to the standards required on bigger stages. “There are many match winners in this team,” Litton said. “We are ready to play in pressure situations.”
The one major concern for him is injury. With the BPL coming next, he said the biggest challenge is simply keeping the squad intact.
“I do not want any player injured before the World Cup. That is the only thing that worries me,” he said.
Bangladesh finished the series with Litton’s fifth T20I series win as captain, more than any other Bangladeshi. He said the focus now shifts to maintaining confidence and form.
“If they run well in the World Cup, then it will be fine. I do not need anything else,” he said.
