Litton Das has been appointed as captain for the remainder of the tournament in Dhaka by Rangpur Riders with head coach Mickey Arthur confirming the decision on Friday after a practice session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. He replaces former long standing captain Nurul Hasan Sohan
Arthur said the change was an obvious one, citing Litton’s status within Bangladesh cricket and the authority he carries inside the dressing room.
“Because he’s the national captain, it’s an easy choice,” Arthur said. “I love the way Litton approaches his cricket. He’s very aggressive, his mindset’s perfect. He’s a leader that everybody follows and respects, and I can see why he leads the Bangladesh team in T20 cricket.”
The Riders have endured a mixed campaign to date, and the coaching staff believe the leadership switch can help the side find momentum as the tournament enters a decisive stage. Arthur pointed to Litton’s personality and intent as central to the decision.
“He brings clarity and energy,” Arthur said. “He plays with intent, he thinks positively, and those are the qualities we want to see reflected in the whole group.”
Arthur also reflected on Rangpur’s recent performances, conceding that the team had lacked boldness at key moments in their matches so far.
“We’ve probably been a little bit timid in those three games,” he said. “But we’ve got a real opportunity here to make some memories and to make some history as a team together.”
