A group of elected councilors has taken legal steps over a new notice issued ahead of the Bangladesh Cricket Board election.
Six councilors, chosen by different clubs for a four year term, have demanded the withdrawal of the directive that asked clubs to submit new councilor nominations.
They sent a legal notice by registered mail on Wednesday.
The notice went to the Youth and Sports Secretary, National Sports Council Chairman, BCB ad hoc committee president, BCB chief executive officer, and the deputy commissioners of six districts.
They warned that legal action will follow if the notice is not withdrawn within three days.
Lawyer Md Shafiqul Islam, who represents the councilors, said they were elected at district level elections on September 22, 2025.
He said their four year term is still active. Despite that, a new notice was issued on May 6 asking for fresh nominations to form the general council before the BCB election.
He argued that this move has no legal basis. The councilors have asked the authorities to cancel the notice within the deadline.
They also called for the matter to be settled through an arbitration tribunal under the BCB constitution.
