Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the country’s crime situation has improved compared to the same period in 2025, claiming that almost all categories of offences have declined.

He made the remarks on Monday at a press conference held at the conference room of the Secretariat.

Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Salahuddin also addressed recent evaluations by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), asserting that the organisation bases its reports on newspaper clippings rather than conducting its own independent investigations.

The minister also said initiatives have been taken to further “boost up” the police force.

These include police officials involved in the investigation and swift arrest of suspects in the Pallabi child Ramisa murder case, three members of the naval police who played a key role in saving passengers during a boat accident at Daulatdia, and three police members who contributed to the arrest of four accused in a gang rape case in Munshiganj.

Each of the awarded personnel received Tk20,000 along with certificates of appreciation. Some officers were also given special badges.

Responding to questions on the law-and-order situation, the home minister said the government has completed three months in office.

He said comparisons have been made with the same period last year, and according to available statistics, crime has significantly improved in 2025 compared to the previous year.

Salahuddin Ahmed added that nearly all categories of crime have shown a decline.

He also mentioned rapid DNA testing and autopsies in the Ramisa murder case helped ensure the swift submission of the chargesheet.

The minister said the police force has been reshaped and has regained public trust following the changed situation.

Regarding internal discipline, he confirmed that departmental cases are being filed and legal action is being taken against police officers and personnel who have remained absent from their workplaces for an extended period.
