He also impacted the match against Atletico Madrid without scoring, where his movement and positioning disrupted defensive structure. This type of contribution creates space and forces defensive adjustments even without direct goal involvement.
LaLiga awarded him the prize ahead of Vedat Muriqi, Carlos Soler, Lucas Boyé, and Fede Viñas following a public vote.
This marks his third Player of the Month award this season after wins in November and December. No player has previously won the award three times in a single season since its introduction in 2013.
Yamal leads LaLiga with 11 assists and has recorded 16 goals in 28 appearances this season. His output combines chance creation and finishing, which defines his role as both provider and scorer.
Barcelona confirmed that Yamal suffered a left hamstring injury after the match against Celta Vigo. The club expects him to miss the rest of the season but anticipates his availability for the World Cup.
