Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has won the La Liga Player of the Season award after playing a key role in the club’s title-winning campaign.
The 18-year-old helped Barcelona defend their league crown and enjoyed a standout season. He became the first player to win the league’s Player of the Month award three times in a single campaign.
Yamal finished as Barcelona’s top scorer in La Liga with 16 goals. He also provided 11 assists, the highest assist tally in the league this season.
The award came a day after Barcelona coach Hansi Flick was named Coach of the Year.
In a statement, Barcelona praised Yamal’s impact on the team. The club said rival defenders often struggled to stop him because of his attacking quality. Barcelona also highlighted his 16 goals and 11 assists, noting that no other player in La Liga created as many goals for teammates.
Yamal faced several injury setbacks during the season. He missed a number of matches with groin problems and sat out Barcelona’s final six games because of a hamstring injury.
Despite those concerns, he is expected to be available for Spain at the World Cup, which begins next week in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Yamal burst onto the scene at just 16 years old and quickly became one of Spain’s brightest talents. He was a key member of the Spain side that won the European Championship in 2024, the country’s fourth title in the competition.
