Cricket Australia has named a 14-member CA XI squad for a three-day practice match against Bangladesh ahead of the visitors’ two-Test series against Australia.
Australia internationals Sam Konstas and Josh Philippe, along with Kurtis Patterson who have played two Test matches, have been included in the squad announced on Thursday.
The CA XI will assemble in Darwin on August 4 before taking on Bangladesh in the three-day match from August 6 to 8. Play is scheduled from 10:00am to 5:00pm local time each day. The match will be played at the adjacent Marrara Cricket Ground, with both teams agreeing to a 13-a-side contest, meaning it will not have first-class status.
Bangladesh will travel to Australia for the first time in 23 years, with the team departing in two groups on August 1 and 3. Following the three-day match, the visitors will face Australia in the first Test in Darwin from August 12 to 16, followed by the second Test in Mackay from August 22 to 26. Both matches are part of the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.
Cricket Australia said the CA XI squad has been selected to provide valuable development opportunities for some of the country’s most promising players as part of its national development pathway.
Tim Nielsen has been appointed head coach, with Steven Crook serving as assistant coach.
Sonya Thompson, Cricket Australia’s Head of National Development, said, “The CA XI squad for the match against Bangladesh is a significant part of our pathway programs.”
“The match against Bangladesh will give players the opportunity to challenge themselves in a representative environment while continuing their development against international opposition”, she added.
