A US court has rejected Kim Kardashian’s attempt to keep details of a $6 million settlement with singer Ray J private, ruling that the information does not qualify for sealing from public view.
The dispute is linked to a long-running legal fallout between the two, which resurfaced after Kardashian made allegations in a 2022 episode of The Kardashians, accusing Ray J of attempting to extort her over a second sex tape and claiming he assaulted her while she was asleep. Ray J, whose real name is Ray Norwood Jr., later threatened legal action, which led to the multimillion-dollar settlement.
Tensions escalated again last year when Ray J made comments during a livestream suggesting that Kardashian and her mother were involved in illegal activity and could face government charges. Kardashian responded with a defamation lawsuit, accusing him of attempting to exploit her fame.
Her legal filing referenced remarks made in a TMZ documentary on Sean “Diddy” Combs, where Ray J was heard saying he would believe allegations of racketeering against the Kardashians. He later repeated similar claims in a widely circulated video, prompting further legal action.
Ray J, in turn, filed a cross complaint, alleging Kardashian violated the terms of their 2023 settlement agreement, which reportedly included restrictions on discussing their past sex tape. Kardashian then sought to seal related court documents.
However, in a ruling dated March 30, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Steven Ellis ruled that public interest outweighed privacy concerns. He said Kardashian had not provided sufficient evidence that releasing the settlement details would cause harm.
Kardashian and Ray J have a long and controversial history. The pair dated in the early 2000s, and a leaked sex tape involving them became a major catalyst in Kardashian’s rise to global fame.
