Continuous heavy rainfall lasting nearly an hour and a half has inundated several low‑lying parts of Khagrachhari. Within just 90 minutes, the district recorded 103 millimeters of rain.
The downpour pushed water levels in the Maini and Chengi rivers above danger marks, leaving thousands of residents in Dighinala and Khagrachhari town affected as their neighborhoods went under water.
Around 8:30am, most houses in Muslimpara, Nicher Bazar, Mehedibagh, Futbil, Kaladeba, Ganjpara and Khobong Poria in Khagrachhari municipality were found inundated, our correspondent reported.

Parveen Akter of Mehedibagh said, “It started raining around 2am while we were asleep. In the morning, neighbours called out saying water had entered the house. Then we rushed out.”
Another resident, Rozina Akter, said, “Around 6am water began entering houses. It is still rising.”
Former municipal councillor Abdul Majid said homes in Mehedibagh, Muslimpara and Nicher Bazar were flooded after just a few hours of rain. He noted that heavy rainfall had quickly swollen the Chengi River, inundating low‑lying parts of Khagrachhari town.

Local residents said the sudden downpour Friday night triggered flash flooding. People in Muslimpara, Kaladeba, Ganjpara, Futbil and Khobong Poria were caught off guard. As water rose rapidly, many abandoned homes for roads, shops and higher ground. Croplands were also damaged.
Similar conditions were reported in Dighinala, where low‑lying areas of Merung, Kabakhali and Beyolkhal were flooded, disrupting daily life. Farmers fear losses as transplanted Aman paddy fields went under water.
Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner Anwar Sadat said the administration will provide immediate assistance to affected families. Relief efforts are being monitored, and dry food supplies will be arranged for those displaced.
