Namit Malhotra’s ambitious mythological epic Ramayana has secured what is being described as the biggest theatrical distribution deal in Indian cinema, with filmmaker Karan Johar acquiring the Hindi distribution rights for Rs 350 crore, according to Bollywood Hungama.
The deal reportedly surpasses the previous record held by King by Rs 100 crore, reflecting the industry’s enormous confidence in the film ahead of its release.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, Yash and Sunny Deol. The two-part epic is mounted on a reported budget of Rs 1,500 crore, with the first instalment scheduled to hit cinemas worldwide on 30 October 2026, during the Diwali holiday.
According to the report, Dharma Productions plans an extensive theatrical rollout across India to maximise the film’s reach. The production has already generated significant interest among exhibitors, with expectations running high for one of the country’s biggest releases.
The report also claims that producer Namit Malhotra has been closely overseeing the film’s post-production to ensure its visual effects meet international standards. Industry insiders believe the project has the potential to redefine the Indian box office.
Work on the theatrical trailer is also progressing, with the makers preparing for the film’s global launch later this year.
