A Jubo Dal leader was shot in the leg amid a dispute over local dominance in Chattogram’s Raozan upazila early Monday.
The incident took place at around 2am near the Moenia Azizia Madrasa in the Natunhat Bazar area of Noajishpur Union.
The injured leader, 45-year-old Zahed Talukdar, son of Kabir Ahmed of Talukdar Para, sustained a bullet wound to his right leg. Locals rescued him and took him to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
Police and local residents said the shooting resulted from an ongoing conflict over establishing supremacy in the area. Jubo Dal leader Muhammad Kalu allegedly fired at Zahed during the confrontation.
Police said Kalu has been on the run since the incident, and that several accomplices were with him at the time.
Nurul Huda, former joint convener of the Raozan BNP and former chairman of the Noajishpur Union Parishad, said he had been informed of the shooting. He noted that “while those involved in this incident are politically active, none of them currently hold any organisational posts.
Raozan Police Station officer-in-charge Monirul Islam Bhuiyan said a search operation is under way, though the victim’s family has not yet filed a formal complaint.
