The Senate of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Saturday approved a budget of Tk348.70 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
University Treasurer Prof M Abdur Rob placed the budget before the 43rd annual Senate session.
According to the sector-wise allocation, the largest share of Tk201.43 crore, or 57.77% of the total budget, has been earmarked for the salaries and allowances of the university’s teachers, officers and employees.
The second-largest allocation of Tk78.03 crore (22.38%) has been set aside for general supplies and services, including administrative expenses.
The allocation for pensions and retirement benefits has been reduced to Tk37.14 crore (10.65%), down from Tk44.24 crore in the revised budget for the previous fiscal year.
No allocation has been made for research and innovation from the university’s own revenue budget this year, with the allocation for the sector shown as zero. However, university sources said funding for research would later be provided directly by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
