The second convocation of Jagannath University (JnU) is likely to be held on 30 January next year, Vice-Chancellor Prof Md Rais Uddin said on Sunday.
The vice-chancellor said the tentative date had been discussed with relevant officials at the ministry, and preparations would begin once formal approval is obtained.
University sources said the proposed date was set with the approval of the president, who serves as the university’s chancellor. The university’s central playground, popularly known as Dhupkhola field, is being considered as the venue.
“We have proposed January 30 for the convocation. We have discussed the matter with the relevant authorities at the ministry. Preparations will begin after formal approval,” Prof Rais Uddin said.
The university’s chancellor and president, the education minister and the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) are expected to attend the ceremony, he said.
A convocation speaker will also be selected.
JnU held its first convocation in 2020, 15 years after the university was established.
Students from 12 academic sessions, from 2001-02 to 2012-13, took part in the ceremony.
