Jagannath University (JnU) unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) held a protest march and rally on Tuesday to denounce activities by the banned student wing of Awami League, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), near the campus.
Earlier that day, at approximately 9:30am, the banned Chhatra League held a programme near the university’s third gate. During the event, the organisation raised a six-point demand, and images of the activity subsequently circulated on social media.
In response, the university branch of the JCD brought out a protest march at around 3:00pm. The procession paraded through various campus roads before concluding with a brief rally in front of the main gate.
JCD Convener Mehdi Hasan Himel and Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin led the march.
Addressing the rally, Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin said, the student community must remain united against any attempts to rehabilitate banned organisations in post-uprising Bangladesh. He emphasised that Jagannath University is an environment dedicated to education and that there is no room for the return of “terrorist or toxic political cultures.”
Convener Mehdi Hasan Himel echoed these sentiments, asserting that general students would never accept activities conducted under the banner of a banned organisation. He warned that any attempts to incite instability on campus would be resisted alongside the general student body.
The protest was attended by JnU JCD Senior Joint Convener Jafar Ahmed, and Joint Conveners Suman Sardar, Md Mostafizur Rahman Rumi, Shahriar Ahmed, KM Mahmud Hasan, Rabiul Awal, Yakub Sheikh Anik, and Shakhaitul Islam Khan Parag, among other activists.
