Bangladeshi actress Jaya Ahsan, who frequently travels between Dhaka and Kolkata for film shoots and promotions, has revealed that her youthful appearance has little to do with regular gym sessions.
Speaking to Kolkata-based daily Anandabazar Patrika while promoting her newly released film Ajo Ardhangini, Jaya shared that she prefers farming and gardening over conventional fitness routines.
The actress admitted that she does not go to the gym regularly and usually begins exercising only a few months before filming starts.
During those periods, she practises Pilates to improve her fitness and burn calories.
“I don’t deny that going to the gym is important, but I don’t do it regularly,” Jaya said. “Everyone has their own way of staying fit. I farm. I prepare the soil and, when needed, even dig it with a spade.”
Fans who follow Jaya on social media are familiar with her passion for gardening.
At her home in Bangladesh, she grows a variety of vegetables, many of which find their way onto her dining table.
She prefers eating homegrown produce, saying it allows her to avoid concerns about chemical fertilisers.
When it comes to food, Jaya said she mostly enjoys home-cooked meals made with fresh vegetables from her garden.
However, she admitted that she occasionally indulges in her favourite comfort food—pizza.
“If I do eat junk food, I don’t feel guilty about it,” she said. “I believe the mind and soul also deserve to be fed sometimes. If you’re overly cautious all the time, how will you enjoy the experience of eating?”
Jaya currently stars in Ajo Ardhangini, directed by Kaushik Ganguly, which was recently released in West Bengal.
The film is the sequel to the critically acclaimed and commercially successful Ardhangini, released in 2023.
Reprising her role as Meghna, Jaya previously said the character has evolved significantly.
Meghna has become an accepted member of the family, gained confidence over time and now faces new relationships and fresh emotional challenges as the story unfolds.
