A local Jatiyatabadi Tati Dal leader was hacked to death by miscreants in the Khalishpur area of Khulna city in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased was identified as M Sona Mia, president of Ward No. 10 unit of Tati Dal. He was the son of Jabbar Sardar of Nayabati area and used to run a grocery shop in the locality.
Locals said three miscreants arrived on a motorcycle and attacked him at his shop around 12:05am. They hacked him indiscriminately before fleeing the scene.
Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police Sudarshan Kumar Roy said Sona Mia tried to escape after the attack. He ran and took shelter in a nearby warehouse.
Locals later found him lying unconscious inside the warehouse and rushed him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Doctors declared him dead on arrival.
