Kazi Mamunur Rashid, Secretary General of the Rowshan-aligned faction of the Jatiya Party (JaPa), was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) late on Sunday.
Police said Rashid was detained in front of the Westin Hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka.
On Monday morning, Mohammad Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner (Administration) of the DB, confirmed the arrest, adding that legal proceedings are underway and Rashid will be produced before the court.
According to records, Rashid had previously been arrested on 4 November in connection with a rape case and was sent to jail, though he was later granted bail. He is also facing several cases related to killings during the July protests.
