Jamal Hossain won the inaugural Chief of Army Staff (CAS) Cup Professional Golf Tournament 2026, which was held from Wednesday to Friday at Jolshiri Golf Club in Rupganj.
Jamal finished the 54 hole event with a total score of 198, 18 under par. He sealed the title with a final round of seven under par 65 and won the tournament by eight strokes.

The event ended with a prize giving ceremony where Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman announced plans to build four new golf academies in Savar, Bogura, Jashore and Chattogram. He also said similar tournaments would be held four times a year.
Jamal recorded rounds of 67, 66 and 65 over the three days. He moved into the lead after the second round and increased his advantage on the final day with the lowest score of the tournament.
Badal Hossain finished second on 206, 10 under par. He shot rounds of 66, 70 and 70. Badal led after the opening round but could not keep pace with Jamal over the final two days.

Jamal received Tk 350,000 as the winner’s prize from the total prize fund of Tk 30 lakh. Prize money was awarded to the top 40 finishers according to the tournament payout structure.
Bangladesh golf has often faced a shortage of major tournaments and opportunities for professional players. Speaking at the ceremony, General Waker-Uz-Zaman said the new plans aim to change that situation.
“I want our golfers to be able to earn more through the game they play. That is why we will arrange mega tournaments of this standard four times a year, giving our players regular opportunities to compete and to earn,” he said.
The Army Chief also announced plans to expand golf development outside Dhaka.
“We will establish four golf academies, in Savar, Bogura, Jashore and Chattogram, so that talented players outside the capital get the same opportunity to learn and develop. These academies will give young golfers in every region a proper pathway into the sport, rather than leaving opportunity concentrated in one place.”
He said golf can play an important role in shaping young people and compared the sport’s current position to cricket’s past in Bangladesh.
“Golf is essential for developing sportsmanship. It keeps young people away from bad influences. In the 1980s, cricket was an elite sport in this country. Not everyone could play it, and it was rare for most people. We will work to take golf from that same position and make it accessible to everyone.”

The Army Chief also confirmed that he would personally support the financial backing of the tournament and work towards developing Jolshiri Golf Club into a venue capable of hosting international standard events.
Bangladesh Professional Golfers Association President Major General Mashud Razzaq (retd.) said the federation had organised 10 tournaments during the season and described the CAS Cup as the final event under the current committee.
“This was our last tournament as a committee. We managed to organise ten tournaments this golf season. Alongside Siddikur, Jamal and Badal, we have been able to prepare more golfers of real quality. Every committee member gave their utmost, working day and night, and I want to thank them for that.”
Razzaq welcomed the Army Chief’s academy project and praised the standard of play shown during the tournament.
“Jamal became champion at eighteen under par, and I am delighted looking at everyone’s scores this time. Our golf is moving in the right direction. With the Army Chief’s support, we will establish four golf academies in Savar, Bogura, Jashore and Rangpur, and work to run golf and education side by side, so our golfers do not fall behind in either.”
Jamal said confidence played a major role in his title winning performance.
“Yesterday my performance was a little up and down in the middle stretch, but today I played with a great deal of confidence, and that is the reason I won. My thanks to BPGA President Masud sir and our Army Chief for organising such a wonderful tournament. We hope to see more tournaments like this,” he told Daily Times of Bangladesh.
