Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has welcomed the announcement of the verdict date in the trial of Sheikh Hasina, expressing optimism that the judgment will be delivered smoothly despite challenges.

At a press conference held at the party’s Moghbazar office on Thursday, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said he hoped the court would “deliver the verdict after overcoming all obstacles.”

Parwar said political parties would remain united against fascism, adding that “people are confronting all threats and intimidation from Awami fascism on the streets.”

He alleged that defeated fascist forces were attempting acts of sabotage to disrupt the nation’s progress toward a free and fair election. To resist such attempts, Jamaat activists have taken up planned positions at 14 points across the capital, he said.

The Jamaat leader added that if the July National Charter is implemented through an executive order and a referendum is held within November, the national election could be conducted peacefully.

He cautioned, however, that any delay in holding the referendum would “provide anti-national conspirators more opportunities to create unrest.”
