Leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Monday. The discussion took place at the Election Commission office in Agargaon, Dhaka, in the afternoon.
The Jamaat party was led by Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher and included A H M Hamidur Rahman Azad, Advocate Jasim Uddin Sarkar, and Matiur Rahman Akand.
Jamaat leader Jasim Uddin Sarkar said, “The upcoming election is our focus. We discussed overall preparations. A briefing will be held after the meeting.”
Sources said the talks likely covered the broader aspects of election preparation, including the possibility of a referendum, ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The national election is scheduled for the first half of February next year, with the EC preparing to announce the schedule in December. Political parties have already reached a consensus on holding a referendum based on the July Charter.
