Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has announced that, after accepting the 13th National Parliamentary Election results, the party pledges to serve as a responsible opposition in parliament.”
Shafiqur Rahman made the declaration early Saturday, posting on his verified Facebook account at 1:44am.
He stated that the party remains committed to a stable and effective democratic system, respects the rule of law, and recognises the overall outcome of the elections.
Acknowledging the contributions of party volunteers and supporters, he said, “Countless individuals have devoted their time, energy, and belief to the cause. Many faced intimidation while exercising their democratic rights. Your courage has strengthened democracy in our country.”
Addressing party activists, the Jamaat ameer acknowledged their disappointment but emphasised that their efforts were not in vain.
“With 77 seats, we have nearly quadrupled our presence in parliament and become one of the strongest opposition blocs in modern Bangladesh,” he said.
Reflecting on the broader political landscape, he noted, “History reminds us that political fortunes change. In 2008, the BNP won only 30 seats. Eighteen years later, they formed the government in 2026. Democratic politics is a long journey. Our path is clear-earn public trust, hold power accountable, and prepare responsibly for the future.”
Shafiqur Rahman underscored that Jamaat’s movement extends beyond elections. “Our aim is to strengthen democratic culture, protect citizens’ rights, and build a just and accountable state. We will serve as a responsible, principled, and peaceful opposition while ensuring government accountability and contributing constructively to national development.”
He concluded by reaffirming the party’s unwavering commitment to principled and peaceful politics.
