Action icon Jackie Chan is set to star in the upcoming action-comedy Pawfect Agents, directed and produced by Leo Zhang, with production scheduled to begin in September.
The live-action and CG hybrid feature will be introduced to international buyers at Hong Kong FilMart by sales company Cappu Films, which is handling global pre-sales, reported by Variety.
The story centres on a veteran agent on the verge of retirement who is pulled back into action after the Sanxingdui Golden Mask, one of China’s prized cultural treasures, becomes the target of an international theft ring. The reluctant hero joins forces with a technologically advanced spy dog, leading to a globe-trotting chase from Europe back to China.
According to Zhang, the film introduces a fresh dynamic for Chan, as the actor teams up with a group of animal agents brought to life through a blend of live-action and computer-generated animation. The film’s CG animal universe has been designed by contemporary artist Li Erpeng.
The production has secured filming access to major international landmarks including the Palace of Versailles and the National Museum of Qatar. Notably, the team conducted a scene scan inside the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles, marking the first time the palace has allowed a Chinese production to capture and use its virtual image assets.
A worldwide theatrical release for Pawfect Agents is targeted for summer 2027.
