The authorities of Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia have suspended two teachers and one official accused in a murder case over the killing of Social Welfare Department Chair and Assistant Professor Asma Sadia Runa.
The decision was announced in three separate office orders signed by Islamic University Acting Registrar Professor Manjurul Haque on Saturday afternoon.
Those suspended are Social Welfare Department Assistant Professor Shyam Sundar Sarkar, Assistant Professor Habibur Rahman and Ummul Mu’minin Ayesha Siddika Hall Assistant Registrar Biswajit Kumar Biswas.
The office orders said their names appeared in the preliminary information of a cognisable offence received by police following the murder of Islamic University Social Welfare Department Chair and Assistant Professor Mosha Asma Sadia Runa on Wednesday.
Under the university’s employee disciplinary rules, they were temporarily suspended from Thursday.
The order also said they will receive subsistence allowance in accordance with university regulations during the suspension period.
Asma Sadia Runa was stabbed to death in her department office on Wednesday afternoon.
The next morning, her husband Imtiaz Sultan filed a murder case with Islamic University Police Station naming employee Fazlur Rahman as the prime accused and three others as co-accused.
Police have already shown the main accused Fazlur Rahman arrested while he is undergoing treatment in an intensive care unit.
