Islamic University (IU) unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir staged a protest march on Monday against comments made in parliament by BNP lawmaker Monirul Haque Chowdhury of Cumilla‑6 regarding female MPs wearing the hijab.
The protesters also voiced opposition to the ongoing incidents of rape across the country.
Around 11am, the Shibir activists brought out a procession from the Bot Tola premises. The march paraded through campus roads before ending in a brief rally at the main gate.

Demonstrators chanted slogans including “Hijab is women’s right, none can take it away,” “Stop hatred over hijab, defend Bangladesh,” and “Pulling at hijab will shatter peace.”
Around 200 students led by IU Shibir President Yusuf Ali joined the protest.
Yusuf said, “An unconditional apology must be offered to the people immediately. The parliament must also apologise for the way the remark was greeted with table‑thumping. We demand a permanent law in parliament to prevent insulting or derogatory statements about Islam.”
