The Israeli Foreign Ministry has stated that Italy’s decision to suspend a defence agreement with Israel will have no impact on its security, claiming that no formal security pact exists between the two nations, reports BBC.
This response follows an announcement by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who recently indicated that her country was suspending its defence deal with Israel.
A spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry clarified that the arrangement mentioned by the Prime Minister was merely a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed many years ago, rather than a binding security treaty.
“We have no security agreement with Italy,” the spokesperson told BBC, further maintaining that the decision would not affect Israeli security.
