Islami Andolan Bangladesh Ameer Mohammad Rezaul Karim on Thursday said the party is the only political platform representing Islam in the ongoing national election.
Rezaul, popularly known as Charmonai Pir, made the remarks while addressing an election rally at the Rangpur Public Library ground in the evening as the chief guest.
Referring to the Jamaat-led alliance, he said it had already made clear that it would not run the country in line with Islami Shariah. “As a result, in this election there is only one ballot box in Bangladesh that stands for Islam, and that is Islami Andolan,” he said.
Charmonai Pir said the country had failed to achieve meaningful development even after 54 years of independence, alleging that corruption had spread to every level of society.
He claimed that electing Islami Andolan candidates would ensure corruption-free governance.
“If our candidates are elected, there will be no corruption, and people from all professions will benefit across all sectors,” he said.
Later, he formally handed over election symbols to the party’s candidates contesting in six constituencies in Rangpur and called on voters to support them to ensure victory.
The rally was presided over by Islami Andolan Rangpur Metropolitan President Abdur Rahman Kasemi.
Party presidium member Prof Mahbubar Rahman, Islami Sramik Andolan Vice-President Maulana Siddiqur Rahman, Rangpur-3 candidate Amiruzzaman Piyal and Rangpur-2 candidate ATM Golam Mostafa, along with other central and local leaders addressed the rally, among others.
