In a statement, Katz said he had just been informed of the senior Iranian security official’s death following overnight Israeli strikes, reports BBC.

Ali Larijani serves as the influential secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC).
He was appointed to the post in August 2025 by Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian, also representing the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on the council. Iranian media have described him as an adviser to the former leader.
Larijani previously held the position of speaker of parliament for 12 years, from May 2008 to May 2020. Though he led the Principlist faction between 2008 and 2012, in recent years he has often been characterized as a “moderate conservative.”
Before becoming speaker, he was Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator from 2005 to 2007.
His brother, Sadegh Larijani, is another prominent figure in the Islamic Republic, currently chairing the Expediency Council, the body that arbitrates disputes between parliament and the Guardian Council.
