Country’s IP TV platforms and online news portals will be brought under a proper policy framework, State Minister for Information Yaser Khan Chowdhury said on Thursday.
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after visiting the Press Club in Nandail, Mymensingh, in the afternoon.
He said after assuming office he had realised how the ministry had been run over the past 17 years, alleging that it had been operated with irregularities and corruption and that rules and regulations were not properly followed.
The state minister said online portals run even from a mobile phone must comply with government policies and existing regulations.
He said the government does not intend to curb media freedom, as independent media are essential for democratic development.
Addressing journalists, he assured that support would be provided from the Training and Welfare Fund to enhance professional standards in line with policy guidelines.
