Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Opposition Leader Md Shafiqur Rahman at his office in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
During the meeting, they discussed Bangladesh’s post-election political and economic situation, bilateral investment prospects and issues related to democratic governance, according to a press release.
They exchanged views on ways to strengthen investment cooperation between Bangladesh and Switzerland, with the Swiss envoy reaffirming his country’s firm support for Bangladesh.
Renggli expressed optimism that Swiss investment in Bangladesh would continue to grow in the coming years. He also stressed the importance of strengthening democracy and democratic institutions in the country.
The meeting also focused on the Rohingya crisis and human rights issues. Both sides highlighted the constructive role that opposition parties and civil society could play in addressing such challenges.
Dr Shafiqur Rahman urged Switzerland to expand its engagement with Bangladesh in green energy, bilateral trade and other sectors of mutual interest.
