The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal formally began the investigation on Tuesday for the trial of the Awami League as an organisation. Investigation officers have been appointed.
Prior to this, on Sunday, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam had informed about the start of the investigation for the trial of the Awami League as a criminal organisation at the International Crimes Tribunal.
The chief prosecutor said, “A political party named the Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM) had previously filed a complaint against the Awami League as a party regarding allegations of crimes against humanity. We are investigating based on that. Therefore, it can be said that at this moment, we are about to begin the preliminary investigation work to bring the Awami League as a party face to face with trial as a criminal organisation.”
“Once it begins in full swing, we will be able to tell how far the matter of the party facing trial has progressed. However, we are currently scrutinising and evaluating the complaint with importance. The formal investigation will begin very soon,” he also informed.
He further said, “Perhaps within this current month, we will see some significant progress. Trials of many cases are ongoing. Trials of several cases are in the final stage. Besides, several important events related to the cases will occur. Charge sheets for many big cases will be submitted. We also expect that formal charges will be submitted.”
