The Dhaka district stage of the Inter College Football Tournament 2025 began on Sunday 30 November 2025 at 9am at the Government Physical Education College ground in Mohammadpur, where the event was officially inaugurated by chief guest Md Mahbubur Rahman, director and joint secretary of the Directorate of Sports.
The tournament forms part of a nationwide initiative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports that aims to celebrate youth and promote grassroots sporting talent. Balloons and festoons were released to signal the start of the new season, which will run for 2025 to 2026.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md Abdul Warez Ansari presided over the ceremony. Special guests included Md Muminul Hasan, principal of the Government Physical Education College, and Md Jalal Hossain, principal of Padma Government College in Dohar, along with other invited guests. The welcome address was delivered by Suman Kumar Mitra, Dhaka district sports officer and member secretary of the tournament committee. A total of 24 colleges are taking part.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Md Mahbubur Rahman said the nationwide tournament is being implemented to nurture talent at grassroots level. He added that the initiative aims to steer young people away from mobile and drug addiction and back into sport. “Today’s effort is about bringing students to the field so we can build a healthy and strong nation,” he said. “The young people of today will lead the nation in the days ahead.”
The tournament will progress from district level to divisional and then national level. In the opening match, Navy College defeated Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College 5-0 to start their campaign in emphatic fashion. The final and prize giving ceremony will take place on 8 December 2025 at the same venue.
